Considering the conditions of the United States in the late 1800s, was Chinatown the right place for the Chinese to settle?

  1. I believe Chinatown was the right place for the Chinese to settle in the late 1800s, because they had their own area which reminded them of home and they wouldn't have to feel like outcasts by the whites. Most whites had complaints about the Chinese. When the Transcontinental Railroad was complete, everyone who worked on it was credited, except for the Chinese; despite the fact they did most of the work with lower pay that others. In my opinion, the Chinese weren't bad people at all; maybe it's the same reason why whites felt like they were superior to blacks. Racism was a problem for the Chinese since they weren't able to live life without being judged by their looks. That's why I believe it was a good idea for the Chinese to settle in Chinatown. Today, multiple tourists visit Chinatown and it's very popular for its food, entertainment, and much more. We can learn something from the Chinese that we never learned before so we shouldn't judge anyone by their appearance, it's whats inside. Their personality counts rather than their looks.
